Parks
- Lake Claire Park (view map) at Lakeshore Drive near McLendon features a playing field, tennis court, and a playground equipment (best for real young kids). Neighbors with friendly dogs tend to congregate at the park on weekends and in the evenings. Stop on by!
- The Olmstead Linear Parks along South Ponce
- Freedom Park with its bike path (see Path Foundation)
- Candler Park which features a playground, swimming pool (renovated summer 2008!), public golf course, basketball courts, tennis courts, and playing fields.
Stores
Grocery: Candler Park Market (convenience groceries, wine, beer, ATM), Sevananda (natural food), Kroger at the Edgewood Retail District, DeKalb International Farmers Market (cash or debit cards only) and Publix on Ponce de Leon. TWA convenience store is at the corner of Mathews & DeKalb Ave.
Shopping: There are a set of small shops along McLendon near Clifton Road, just west of the invisible neighborhood border with Candler Park (down the center of Clifton Road). Other nearby areas include Little-5-Points, City of Decatur (just minutes away), Emory Village, Virginia Highlands, and North DeKalb Mall.
Hardware: There is a Lowes at the Edgewood Retail District, Home Depot on Ponce across from City Hall East, and a hardware store on Scott Blvd. in Decatur.
Dining, Etc.
Restaurants: Flying Biscuit, Fellini's Pizza, La Fonda Latina, and Gato Bizco Cafe are at the corner of McLendon & Clifton just west of the invisible neighborhood border. The Radial Cafe is a few blocks away on DeKalb.Nearby Little-5-Points, City of Decatur , Emory Village, and Virginia Highlands areas offer a number of restaurants and bars in widely varying styles.
Movie Theaters: Plaza at Ponce and Highland, North DeKalb Mall at Scott Blvd. and N. Druid Hills Rd., and an Imax theater at the Fernbank Science Center on Clifton above Ponce.
